On June 27, 2020, at approximately 12:16 AM, George Coleman IV, a 22-year-old resident of Southeast Washington, DC, was shot and killed in the 400 block of Mellon Street, SE. Officers from the Seventh District were flagged down by a citizen regarding the shooting. Upon arrival, they found Coleman inside a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to save his life, Coleman was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
