In the pre-dawn hours of a Thursday in Southeast Washington, D.C., a burst of violence shattered the quiet of the Woodland Terrace public housing complex. In a parking lot off of Bruce Place SE, 37-year-old Christopher Devin Heard, a male resident of Oxon Hill, Maryland, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on April 27, 2017.
When police arrived at the scene, they pronounced him dead.
The neighborhood where the fatal shooting took place had been known as one of the District's more violent areas. In the summer of 2015, the community had seen an increased police presence in an effort to curb a spike in shootings.
