In the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 1, 2023, the life of 36-year-old Julius McCree, a Black male from Southeast Washington, D.C., was tragically cut short. At approximately 3:19 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District responded to reports of gunfire in the 3900 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast, an area near the border with Prince George's County, Maryland.
Upon their arrival, police discovered McCree outside, unconscious and suffering from
multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident is being investigated as a homicide by the MPD's Homicide Branch.
As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the fatal shooting, and no arrests have been made. The Metropolitan Police Department is actively seeking information from the public and is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Julius McCree's death. The investigation into this homicide remains ongoing.
