On a summer afternoon in Washington, D.C., 18-year-old Khalliqo Ford, a male resident of Southeast, DC, was fatally shot. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at approximately 3:53 p.m. in the 200 block of K Street, Southwest. First District officers responded to reports of a shooting and, upon arrival, discovered Ford with gunshot wounds. D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and found no signs of life.
Surveillance footage from a rear parking lot captured the events leading up to the fatal encounter. A blue Dodge Charger arrived, and two individuals, identified as Khalliqo Ford and Jeremiah Evans, exited the rear passenger seats. After initially going their separate ways, Evans was seen retrieving an item from a bag before approaching Ford. An altercation ensued, with Evans allegedly pushing and shoving Ford. As Ford attempted to walk away, the suspect fired several shots at him from close range. Following the shooting, an individual from the front passenger seat of the Charger got out, and Evans entered the back passenger seat as the vehicle fled the scene.
On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested then 19-year-old Jeremiah Evans, of no fixed address, in connection with Ford's death. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder while armed. During legal proceedings, a judge found probable cause that Evans was the perpetrator. In a later arraignment, Evans, then 20, pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree premeditated murder while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. The case is scheduled for trial in August 2025.
