In the pre-dawn hours of a Saturday in Washington, D.C., violence shattered the quiet of a Northeast neighborhood. On August 1, 2020, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call in the 4800 block of North Capitol Street, Northeast. There, they discovered 24-year-old Djuan Proctor, a male resident of Northwest, D.C., inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, Proctor was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Proctor's death, which was ruled a homicide, stretched on for more than a year as detectives from the department's Homicide Branch worked to identify a suspect. Their efforts eventually led them to a woman from the area.
On Friday, October 29, 2021, authorities announced a significant development in the case. Pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 23-year-old Shaniah Boyd of Northeast, D.C. Boyd was charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death of Djuan Proctor.
