On a Tuesday afternoon, June 29, 2021, 21-year-old Ranel 'Rae' Marshall was sitting in her car in the 4000 block of Alabama Avenue, SE in Washington, D.C. She was waiting to pick up a friend to go to the movies. At approximately 4:41 pm, another vehicle pulled up alongside hers, and shots were fired.
Ranel, who was a resident of Falls Church, Virginia, was struck in the neck and shoulder. She was rushed to a local hospital where she fought for her life for several days.
Tragically, on July 4, 2021, she succumbed to her injuries.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating her death as a homicide and has asked the public for assistance, offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Described by her family as an outgoing and beautiful person, Ranel had been attending art school with aspirations of becoming an interior designer. As of now, her case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made.
