In the summer of 2015, a young man’s life was cut short in Southeast Washington, D.C. On the evening of Friday, July 24, 23-year-old Antonio McCallister was in the 2700 block of Langston Place, SE, when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 10:38 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found McCallister suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led to a suspect who lived just doors away from the scene of the crime. Eric McDuffie, who was also 23 years old, was identified as the alleged gunman. According to police reports, a witness stated that the assailant came up behind McCallister and shot him. Following the shooting, the gunman was seen running to his nearby home. McDuffie later surrendered to the authorities and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Antonio McCallister's death.
A different man named Antonio McAllister, a 31-year-old Black male, became a victim of gun violence in the fall of 2021. On the night of Sunday, October 3, at approximately 11:44 p.m., police responded to the sound of gunshots in the 3400 block of 13th Place, Southeast. Upon arrival, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The second victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. McAllister, however, remained in critical condition and ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
The investigation into this homicide led to the identification and arrest of several suspects. Authorities connected twin brothers, 19-year-old Joshua and Christian Benton, to the fatal shooting. They were both charged with first-degree murder. Another man, 25-year-old William McCorkle, was also taken into custody, accused of supplying the firearm used in the incident. A fourth individual, 23-year-old Marcus Brown, was arrested for his alleged involvement in retaliatory violence that followed McAllister's death. Surveillance footage from the night of the shooting reportedly captured a gold Dodge Intrepid speeding away from the scene, and witnesses reported seeing individuals resembling the Benton brothers and McAllister near the vehicle.
