In the late afternoon of a Sunday in Washington, D.C., the sound of gunshots shattered the peace in the 2000 block of Bruce Place, Southeast. When officers from the Seventh District arrived around 4:49 p.m. on November 14, 2021, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to area hospitals, but for one, the efforts to save his life were in vain.
Fifty-two-year-old David Williams, a Black male from Southeast, D.C., succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch immediately began an investigation into the tragic shooting, seeking assistance from the public to piece together the events of that fatal afternoon. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the killing of David Williams. The investigation culminated in the issuance of a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant for the individual believed to be responsible for the homicide.
On Thursday, February 3, 2022, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 33-year-old Walter Jenkins, also of Southeast, D.C. Jenkins was taken to the Homicide Branch for questioning and was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder while Armed for his alleged involvement in the death of David Williams. The case against Jenkins is proceeding through the court system, with a future court date set for early 2025.
