In the autumn of 2020, a tragic event unfolded in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C., that cut short the life of Arthur Daniels IV. On the afternoon of October 1st, police responded to a report of a shooting on 8th Street, Northwest. There, they discovered 42-year-old Arthur Daniels IV suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency services rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of the
Northwest, D.C. resident led to the arrests of two teenagers. In December 2020, a 17-year-old male, Deon Walters, was arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder while armed. A second 17-year-old male, Tre Prillerman, was also arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder while armed in connection with the fatal shooting.
A separate and unrelated tragedy befell another Washington, D.C. man named Arthur Daniels seven years prior. This 51-year-old Black man was one of the victims of the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard on September 16, 2013. Daniels, a handyman, was working for a furniture contractor inside Building 197 when a gunman, identified as Aaron Alexis, opened fire.
In the chaotic moments of the attack, Arthur Daniels was fatally shot. He was a husband and a father of five. His wife, Priscilla Daniels, described him as a hardworking man and a loving father who was the family's breadwinner. Tragically, this was not the first time the Daniels family had been struck by gun violence; they had lost a 14-year-old son to a shooting four years earlier. The perpetrator of the Navy Yard shooting, Aaron Alexis, was killed by police at the scene.
