In the early evening of January 21, 2021, a burst of violence in Southeast Washington, D.C., claimed the life of 15-year-old Dayvon Lewis. A Black male, Lewis was fatally shot at approximately 7:10 p.m. in the 1300 block of Congress Street, Southeast. The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene following reports of gunshots in the area.
Upon their arrival, officers did not immediately find the victim at the location of the shooting.
Instead, their investigation led them four blocks away to the 3300 block of 11th Place, Southeast. There, they discovered Lewis inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. Despite the response of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe he was shot on Congress Street and then driven to where the vehicle was ultimately abandoned.
The investigation into the death of Dayvon Lewis was launched by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch. As of now, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Detectives have not publicly released any information regarding potential suspects or a motive for the homicide. The police department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Lewis's death, and they continue to ask for the public's assistance in gathering information.
