In the evening hours of Monday, February 21, 2022, a sense of disquiet settled over the 3200 block of 13th Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C. At approximately 8:33 p.m., the sharp report of a gunshot shattered the night, drawing the attention of residents and prompting calls to the Metropolitan Police Department. Officers from the Third District were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old
Dejuan Hailstorks, a resident of Northwest, D.C. Emergency medical personnel from DC Fire and EMS arrived shortly after the police, but upon assessing Hailstorks, they found no signs consistent with life. He was pronounced dead at the scene, his life tragically cut short by an act of violence. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later took custody of his remains.
In the days that followed, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the shooting death of Dejuan Hailstorks. Detectives began canvassing the neighborhood, seeking to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter. To date, no arrests have been made in the case, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide.
