In the spring of 2021, on the evening of April 15th, Kerry Odoms, a 29-year-old male, was socializing with a group of people in a parking lot in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C. The friendly gathering took a tragic turn just before 10 p.m. Without warning, a man named Andre Smith, then 27, approached the group, lunged toward Odoms, and began firing a gun multiple times.
