Do you know who murdered John Jackson? In the early morning hours of June 20, 2024, a verbal dispute between two men in Northeast Washington, D.C., escalated into a fatal encounter. Outside an apartment building in the 4400 block of Hunt Place, 21-year-old Marcellus Jackson was engaged in an argument with 32-year-old Antonio Johnson. The argument took a dark turn when Johnson brandished a loaded firearm.
Johnson pointed the weapon at Jackson and warned him to 'stop playing with him' before firing a single, fatal shot.
First responders were called to the scene at approximately 3:21 a.m. and found Marcellus Jackson in the roadway, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The male victim was a resident of Northeast D.C.
Immediately after the shooting, Antonio Johnson fled the area. He ran into a nearby apartment belonging to the mother of his child and took her car keys to make his escape. However, the law caught up with him swiftly. As a result of the Metropolitan Police Department's investigation, Johnson was located and arrested later that same day. He was initially charged with second-degree murder while armed.
In December 2024, Antonio Johnson pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter while armed. On March 18, 2025, a judge sentenced him to 17 years in prison. During the emotional sentencing hearing, Marcellus Jackson's grieving mother held up the urn containing her son's ashes and directly addressed his killer, expressing the profound pain his actions had caused the family.
