In the evening hours of September 10, 2024, a burst of violence shattered the peace in a Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood, leaving a local man dead and a community searching for answers. The victim was identified as Jonathan Jackson, a 33-year-old Black male resident of the Southeast area. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:03 p.m. in the 4500 block of Benning Road, Southeast, where officers from the Sixth District of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a
shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched, and DC Fire and EMS personnel transported Jackson to a nearby hospital. Despite all lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
