On a summer evening in Washington, D.C., a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the 4800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. When officers from the Sixth District arrived at the scene around 8:55 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, they discovered a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.
The male victim, identified as 35-year-old Patrick Phillips of Southeast, D.C., succumbed to his injuries despite all life-saving
efforts and was pronounced dead. The female victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is leading the investigation into the fatal shooting.
In the days following the incident, authorities sought the public's help in gathering information about the homicide. They announced that they were searching for a vehicle of interest in connection with the shooting, described as a burgundy 2005 GMC Yukon Denali with Maryland license plates. The investigation into the death of Patrick Phillips remains ongoing, and police have offered a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. As of now, no arrests have been publicly announced, and no suspects have been named.
