In a tragic turn of events, Rashard Felipe Acuna, a 25-year-old Black/African American male, who had moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, from Oakland, California, to escape a life of violence, was found murdered on April 14, 2014. His body was discovered in a desert area south of the Las Vegas Strip, near the Henderson Executive Airport, with a fatal gunshot wound to the back.
Authorities were initially called to the vicinity of La Cienega Street and Neal Avenue after reports of gunshots.
Upon arrival, they found Acuna approximately 100 feet off the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Early investigations revealed that Acuna had been seen talking with two individuals near a dark-colored vehicle shortly before the shots were fired.
The investigation into Acuna's death led to the identification of a suspect, Andrei Davis. A grand jury indicted Davis on multiple charges, including murder with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with a deadly weapon, and third-degree arson. The indictment alleged that Davis shot and killed Acuna and then proceeded to set Acuna's Buick Renatta on fire in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence. At the time of the indictment, Davis was already incarcerated in state prison on other charges.
