In the early morning hours of May 15, 2016, the life of 33-year-old Salvador Ramirez, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in his Las Vegas, Nevada, home. The devastating events unfolded in the presence of his wife, Danielle Ramirez, and their children.
The family had been hosting Mario Espinoza, 34 at the time, and his girlfriend, offering them a place to stay until they could find their own apartment.
On that particular night, Espinoza reportedly began exhibiting paranoid and erratic behavior, repeatedly expressing fear. Despite Salvador's attempts to calm him, the situation escalated with horrific speed.
Armed with a gun and a knife, Espinoza entered the bedroom where the children were. While two of the girls managed to escape, their 10-year-old sister was unable to get away. As his daughter watched in horror, Salvador was shot in the head by Espinoza.
In the midst of the chaos, Danielle Ramirez fought back, grabbing a knife in an attempt to stop the attacker. Her actions caused Espinoza to flee the home. He was later apprehended by police. Espinoza, who had a prior criminal record that included domestic assault and drug-related offenses, was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
