On the evening of February 26, 2018, a young White/Caucasian man's life was cut tragically short in the desert landscape east of Las Vegas. Dylan Ray Martin, a 20-year-old male from Las Vegas, Nevada, was fatally shot in an incident that authorities would later investigate as a homicide. The shooting occurred near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pabco Road, a remote area where Martin had gathered with two other individuals.
The group was reportedly drinking alcohol and recreationally shooting firearms when the fatal event took place.
Authorities were called to the scene at approximately 10:30 p.m. and discovered Dylan Ray Martin deceased. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed his identity. In the wake of the shooting, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Martin's death. This led to the arrest of 19-year-old Andy J. Soto Jr. in connection with the shooting. Soto was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a murder charge.
Despite the official charge, the family of Dylan Ray Martin expressed their belief that the shooting was a tragic accident. They described a close friendship between Martin and Soto, further complicating the narrative of the events that transpired that night. Martin, a graduate of Rancho High School where he was a member of the JROTC and Armed Drill Team, had recently enlisted in the Army and was awaiting basic training. His death was mourned by a large circle of family and friends, including members of the Las Vegas Dezert Junkies, a truck club to which he belonged.
