On May 7, 2015, a tragic double homicide occurred in the northwest valley of Las Vegas, resulting in the deaths of Gary Cravish, 62, and his wife, Bonny Sue Cravish, 56. The couple was found dead in the bedroom of their home, located in the 4800 block of North Tioga Way, near the intersection of Lone Mountain Road and Buffalo Drive.
Bonny Sue Cravish and her husband, Gary, were identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
Both victims died from gunshot wounds; Gary Cravish suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, while Bonny Cravish sustained wounds to both her arm and chest.
The investigation led police to Mark Anthony Carpenter, 47, who was renting a small house on the Cravish's residential property. Carpenter, a blackjack dealer at the Red Rock Resort, was in the process of moving out of the apartment when the shootings occurred. He was known to collect guns and had a specific pistol he referred to as “The Judge,” which he used in the crime.
Carpenter was arrested on May 8, 2015, at the Santa Fe Station, located at 4949 N. Rancho Drive, without incident. He was charged with two counts of open murder and was subsequently held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
During the investigation, Carpenter admitted to shooting the couple over a dispute, although the specific details of the dispute were not disclosed. The couple's daughter, Carrie Cravish, had called the police after discovering her parents' bodies, which led to the swift identification and arrest of Carpenter.
Carpenter appeared in court on May 13, 2015, for a bail hearing, where he was ordered to remain in jail without bond. He acknowledged understanding why he was being held and did not have any questions for the judge. Due to financial constraints, Carpenter was represented by a public defender and waived his right to a hearing within 15 days.
The grand jury later indicted Carpenter on charges of murder with use of a deadly weapon, burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, and discharge of a firearm from or within a structure or vehicle. This incident marked the 38th and 39th homicides investigated by the Metro Police in 2015.
