In the early evening of September 18, 2021, a dispute in a northwest Las Vegas apartment complex tragically escalated, ending the life of 32-year-old Randall Wallace. A Black / African American male, Wallace was reportedly involved in an argument with three other individuals before he was fatally shot. First responders were called to the scene on the 5800 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard around 6:33 p.m., where they found Wallace suffering from a gunshot wound.
He died at the scene, and the Clark County coroner's office later confirmed his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, ruling it a homicide.
For nearly two years, the investigation into Wallace's murder continued, with the suspects remaining unidentified. A significant break in the case came from an unlikely source: a YouTube music video. In July 2023, a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department detective discovered a rap song titled "Fadee Free," written and performed by 25-year-old Kenjuan McDaniel. Investigators found that the song's lyrics contained specific details about Wallace's killing that had not been made public. The video also allegedly showed McDaniel reenacting elements of the murder that were consistent with evidence found at the crime scene.
The lyrics reportedly described the shooter parking a car before approaching on foot, Wallace's friends running away, and the victim twitching after being shot. The song also mentioned Wallace by his nickname, "Midget." Based on this and other evidence gathered during the investigation, police arrested Kenjuan McDaniel on August 29, 2023. He was charged with open murder with a deadly weapon. At the time of his arrest for Wallace's murder, McDaniel was on probation for a 2018 attempted murder case, for which he had pleaded guilty to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
