In the late evening of July 11, 2017, a visit to a Las Vegas apartment complex turned fatal for 28-year-old Justin Martin, a Caucasian male. He had accompanied the woman he was dating to her residence at an apartment complex located at 3700 E. Bonanza Road, near Pecos Road. The time was approximately 10:30 p.m. when his girlfriend went inside one of the apartments, leaving him outside.
What transpired next was a violent altercation in the parking lot.
Police believe Martin was involved in a confrontation that ended with him being shot multiple times. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered Martin lying between two cars in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found a gun in his waistband, but it had not been fired. While Martin had past felony convictions that would have made it illegal for him to carry a firearm, and a gang affiliation from California, police did not suspect the killing was a result of gang-on-gang violence.
For two weeks, the motive behind the shooting and the identity of the shooter remained unclear. Then, investigators identified a suspect in the case. Quinton Katrel Reese, a 35-year-old man, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a murder charge in connection with Justin Martin's death. He was held without bail. Detectives were investigating whether someone had been waiting for Martin at the apartment complex or if he had arranged to meet someone there that night.
