In a tragic turn of events on a Friday morning in Las Vegas, a young man's life was cut short, leaving a family torn apart by violence. Markies Miguel, an 18-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot on April 29, 2022. The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at his home in the BlueBird Mobile Home Park on Las Vegas Boulevard North.
The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that he died from a shotgun wound to the abdomen.
The sole suspect in the shooting was his older brother, 27-year-old Michael Miguel. Following the incident, Michael himself called the police. Upon their arrival, authorities found Markies deceased inside the trailer they shared. Michael Miguel was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of murder. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and held without bail.
According to the arrest report, the fatal confrontation stemmed from a family dispute. Michael Miguel told investigators that he and his younger brother had been arguing about women. He claimed that Markies had become romantically interested in females that Michael had been talking to. The argument escalated, and according to Michael's account, Markies grabbed a shotgun. Michael asserted that during the ensuing struggle, his finger accidentally pulled the trigger. After the shooting, he admitted to hiding the Mossberg Maverick 88 shotgun in a nearby wash, stating he was afraid his brother would get into trouble for possessing the weapon.
Friends and family were left to mourn the loss of a young man who, according to a family fundraiser, had dreams of opening his own construction company. He was described as having a positive energy and a loving spirit that drew people to him. His bright future, full of aspirations, was abruptly extinguished in a moment of conflict.
