In the early morning hours of December 6, 2016, the body of a young Hispanic man, Carlos Lopez-Perez, was discovered in a vacant lot in a desert area of Las Vegas. The 25-year-old male had been the victim of a homicide. An investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department revealed that Lopez-Perez had been killed at a different location before his body was left in the south Las Vegas neighborhood, near the 11200 block of Gillespie Street.

Initially, authorities had difficulty identifying the victim and released photos of his tattoos to the public in the hopes that someone would recognize them. This appeal for public assistance proved successful, and he was soon identified as Carlos Lopez-Perez, also known by the full name Carlos Martin Lopez-Ismeria. His residence was unknown at the time of his death.
