On a winter evening in Las Vegas, a confrontation that began over a trivial matter tragically escalated, ending the life of 24-year-old Raymond Sam La Marca, a Caucasian male. The events of December 30, 1992, started at a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant located at the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue. La Marca and two of his friends found themselves in a heated argument with another young man.
The disagreement spilled out into the parking lot, where the unidentified individual threw a rock at the vehicle belonging to La Marca and his friends before fleeing the scene.
As the suspect ran south along Maryland Parkway, he was joined by an older Hispanic male. Determined to confront them, La Marca gave chase on foot. The pursuit ended at a Vons grocery store, where the confrontation continued inside, causing a disturbance that prompted the store manager to ask La Marca to leave the premises. Once outside in the parking lot, La Marca was confronted again by the young man and his older companion. In a swift and violent act, the younger suspect stabbed La Marca once in the chest.
Following the stabbing, the two men fled, running northwest through the parking lot and disappearing into the night. The suspect, who delivered the fatal blow, was described as a Hispanic male between 17 and 20 years of age, standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing a white headband and a black Raiders jacket. Despite the presence of witnesses and a description of the assailant, he has never been identified, and no arrests have been made in the case of Raymond Sam La Marca's murder. The case remains an unsolved homicide, leaving a lingering sense of injustice for a life cut short over a senseless dispute.
