In the late hours of August 6, 2025, a life was tragically cut short on a Las Vegas street. Andre Matthews, a 43-year-old Black / African American man, was found lying in the roadway on Sahara Avenue near Interstate 15 with a fatal gunshot wound to his neck. The events that led to this violent end began with a seemingly innocuous encounter. Matthews, who worked at a nearby fast-food restaurant, was reportedly on his break when he approached a woman and asked for a bite of her hot dog.
This seemingly simple request escalated into a heated verbal exchange. The woman, later identified as 34-year-old Vivian Jimenez, was with 30-year-old Joseph Skeirik. A witness reported that racial slurs were directed at Matthews during the altercation. Surveillance footage from the area captured Matthews running after the couple. Shortly after he caught up with them, Jimenez and Skeirik were seen running away, while Matthews was left fatally wounded in the street. Neither of the suspects attempted to call for help.
Following an investigation, Vivian Jimenez and Joseph Skeirik were arrested and booked on suspicion of open murder and conspiracy to commit murder. It was alleged that Jimenez provided the firearm to Skeirik, who, as a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing a gun. Both were initially denied bail. However, in a later court proceeding, the murder charges against both Jimenez and Skeirik were dropped, and they are now facing lesser charges. The specifics of the reduced charges have not been widely reported.
Andre Jorge Matthews was born on October 26, 1981, in Wilmington, Delaware. Known to many as "Mr. Matthews," he had a passion for rap music from an early age and was known for his entertaining and humorous personality. Though he had no children of his own, he played a significant role in raising his "Son-Son," Aaron Taylor. His family remembered him as someone who loved people and cherished his family, especially his sisters. He passed away at U.M.C. Trauma Center in Las Vegas with his family by his side.
