On March 20, 2020, an 18-year-old man named Rayvion Brown was fatally shot in a northeast Las Vegas apartment complex. The incident occurred when Brown was sitting in his Ford Mustang near the intersection of Thunderbolt Avenue and Vorsand Drive. At the time, he was engaged in a conversation with an unidentified male. During this interaction, the other man suddenly pulled out a handgun and shot Brown at least once.
Following the shooting, Brown managed to drive his car for several blocks
before pulling over in a convenience store parking lot located at Craig Road and Puebla Street. From there, he was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly before 6 p.m. due to multiple gunshot wounds.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department quickly responded to the scene after the ShotSpotter system detected the gunfire. The police investigation led to the identification of 19-year-old Daniel Lopez-Jauregi as the suspect in the shooting. Lopez-Jauregi was arrested the next day, on March 21, 2020, on the 4700 block of Corsaire Avenue, approximately three blocks south of the shooting site.
Lopez-Jauregi was taken into custody and transported to the Clark County Detention Center, where he faces one count of open murder. He was being held without bail at the time of his arrest. The murder case against Lopez-Jauregi was filed in North Las Vegas Justice Court, although the shooting itself occurred within Metro's jurisdiction.
The arraignment for Lopez-Jauregi was scheduled for the following Wednesday morning in North Las Vegas Justice Court. The police and court records did not immediately provide further details on how Lopez-Jauregi was identified as the suspect or additional specifics about the court case filing.
