In the spring of 2014, a disagreement over a drug transaction in the parking lot of a Colorado Springs bar tragically escalated, ending the life of 38-year-old David James Johnson. On the evening of May 6th, Johnson, a male, was fatally shot while inside a black Lincoln Town Car outside Savannah's Bar & Grill on East Bijou Street. When police arrived at the scene, they found him already deceased.
His death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
The incident also left another man, 37-year-old Javar Harrison, critically injured with multiple gunshot wounds. Harrison, who survived the attack, later provided investigators with a harrowing account of the events that transpired. He explained that he had arranged a meeting at the bar's parking lot between Johnson and another man, identified as 31-year-old Jason Romeo Forbes, for the purpose of a marijuana sale.
According to Harrison's statement to the police, he arrived to find Johnson and Forbes already in the back of the Town Car. Harrison got into the driver's seat as the other two men discussed the price for two pounds of marijuana. The conversation grew heated, and a disagreement over the cost arose. Johnson reportedly told Forbes, 'If you don't want it, don't take it.' In response, Forbes is alleged to have said, 'Dude, how about this,' before opening fire.
After the initial shots, Harrison managed to roll out of the vehicle. As he lay on the ground, Forbes allegedly walked over and shot him twice in the back before fleeing the scene. A white sedan with chrome rims was seen leaving the area and was believed to have been involved. A few days later, on the evening of Thursday, May 8th, Jason Romeo Forbes was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder for the death of David James Johnson.
