In the early hours of May 28, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Montaries Jennings was tragically cut short in a shooting in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The young man was in the 3800 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue when gunfire erupted at approximately 1:15 a.m. Responding officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department discovered Jennings at the scene, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The incident, which also left three adult women with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, is being investigated as a homicide. According to reports, Jennings was an unintended victim, caught in the crossfire of a dispute that did not involve him. Just moments before the fatal shooting, he had been at a different location where another shooting had occurred, and he had contacted his mother to assure her he was safe. He had then driven to the location on Pikes Peak Avenue.
Following an autopsy, the El Paso County Coroner's Office confirmed Montaries Jennings's identity. His death marked the 22nd homicide in the city of Colorado Springs for that year. Detectives with the Homicide/Assault Unit have been actively investigating the case to identify the individuals involved in the shooting.
