In the early morning hours of August 7, 2024, the vibrant nightlife of downtown Colorado Springs was shattered by violence. Outside the Supernova Arcade Bar, located near Boulder Street and North Nevada Avenue, 44-year-old Dieter Gayfield was shot and killed. Police responded to reports of shots fired just after 2 a.m. and found Mr. Gayfield at the scene, having sustained at least one gunshot wound. He tragically died from his injuries at the scene.
