In the late winter of 2015, a young Hispanic man's life was tragically cut short in Portland, Oregon. Esteban Steve Del Cid, a 20-year-old male, was in the Eliot neighborhood on the night of February 28th when he encountered a group of teenagers. In an act described as a senseless whim, one of the teens shot Del Cid, inflicting life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Northeast Rodney Avenue and Cook Street, sending ripples of fear and grief through the community.
The investigation into Del Cid's death unfolded over the following weeks and months, as detectives from the Portland Police Bureau worked to piece together the events of that fatal night. Their efforts soon led them to identify several suspects believed to be involved in the homicide. By April, several arrests had been made in connection with the case. Timothy Jacob Noe, 20, was taken into custody in Portland. Two other suspects, 18-year-old Taras Burchak and 19-year-old Michael Kyree Knox, were apprehended in neighboring Clark County, Washington. A fourth individual, 19-year-old Austin Luepke, was located and arrested in Los Angeles, California. The capture of these suspects marked a significant turning point in the investigation, signaling the beginning of legal proceedings to hold them accountable for their alleged roles in the untimely death of Esteban Steve Del Cid.
