In the early morning hours of September 18, 2021, a dispute inside a Hagerstown, Maryland apartment tragically cut short the life of 21-year-old Donavan Ahmod Disney. Originally from Martinsburg, West Virginia, Disney, a male, was visiting the residence at 201 E. Franklin Street when an altercation erupted. The disagreement escalated, resulting in Disney being shot.
Despite the immediate response from Hagerstown Police Department officers who administered first aid until emergency medical services arrived, Disney succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Meritus Medical Center.
The investigation swiftly identified 27-year-old Miquan Rashad Broadus as the individual who shot Disney. Broadus, who resided at the apartment where the shooting occurred, fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. An arrest warrant was promptly issued, charging him with first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, and various gun-related offenses. A monetary reward was offered for information leading to his capture.
A few days later, on September 21, authorities located Broadus in Washington D.C. The Hagerstown Police Department was notified by the Metropolitan Police Department that Broadus was in their custody. His apprehension came after he himself had been shot multiple times within their jurisdiction and was receiving treatment at a medical facility. Following his arrest, Broadus faced legal proceedings for his role in Donavan Disney's death.
A jury in the Circuit Court for Washington County found Miquan Rashad Broadus guilty on seven criminal charges. Ultimately, the court sentenced him for voluntary manslaughter, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and illegal possession of a firearm with a disqualifying conviction. The remaining offenses were merged for sentencing purposes. The court proceedings revealed that Disney and his girlfriend were staying with Broadus at his apartment when the fatal confrontation occurred. Testimony described a physical altercation that preceded the shooting, culminating in the tragic death of Donavan Ahmod Disney.
