On July 15, 2005, Ferreira was fatally shot near his home in the city's South End, a neighborhood that was grappling with a rise in gun violence at the time. Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, he had been a resident of Hartford for the preceding five years and was a student at the Hartford Adult Education Center.
