James Clarence West, a 73-year-old Black man, was killed in Augusta, Georgia, on December 3, 2024, in a daytime shooting that unfolded in the 1500 block of Picquet Avenue near Gordon Street. Deputies were dispatched around 11:22 a.m. after reports of gunfire, and West was found lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:43 a.m., turning what began as a neighborhood emergency call into one of Richmond County’s homicide cases in a year already marked by rising violence.
