On the evening of May 22, 2025, Kameron Mason, a 28-year-old male, was fatally shot at the MacArthur Park Apartment complex in Augusta, Georgia, where he was employed as the property manager. The incident occurred at approximately 10:28 p.m. on Integrity Drive when officers responded to a call regarding gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds.
Kameron Mason was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Witnesses at the scene indicated that the shooting stemmed from an altercation. Mason had reportedly confronted a group of individuals who were not residents of the complex and were attempting to use the swimming pool after it had closed. An argument ensued, which tragically escalated to the point of gunfire. Residents of the apartment complex had previously reported ongoing issues with non-residents trespassing and using the pool facilities.
In the months following the shooting, five individuals were indicted in connection with Kameron Mason's death. The suspects were identified as alleged members of a local criminal street gang known as Extort Anybody. On August 12, 2025, a Richmond County Grand Jury returned indictments against Cam'ron Barber Harris, age 20, Tyler Preston, age 21, and Jamontae Douglas, age 18, along with two other individuals. The charges brought against the suspects are extensive and include Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and multiple violations of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.
The investigation into Kameron Mason's death was conducted by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Attorney General's Gang Prosecution Unit. Georgia's Attorney General, Chris Carr, stated that Kameron Mason was an innocent individual who was simply doing his job when he was killed. He emphasized that gang violence would not be tolerated and that those responsible would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement in the Augusta area to combat gang-related crime.
