On the evening of December 12, 2024, a personal dispute in Hartford, Connecticut, escalated to a fatal encounter that claimed the life of 30-year-old Alexis Colon, a Hispanic male. The incident unfolded at approximately 9:10 p.m. in the 700 block of New Britain Avenue, a short distance from Colon's home. Hartford police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and multiple calls reporting gunfire.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Colon on the sidewalk,
unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical aid was administered at the scene before he was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Alexis Colon succumbed to his injuries two days later, on December 14, 2024.
Investigators from the Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions are actively working the case. According to law enforcement, surveillance footage from the area captured a clear altercation between Colon and another individual just before the shooting. This has led police to believe that the two were acquainted and that the shooting was the result of a personal dispute. Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department has stated, "These two individuals clearly knew each other. This was a personal dispute."
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and authorities have not released a description of the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to interview witnesses and analyze evidence. In the wake of his death, family and friends of Alexis Colon have created a memorial of candles and balloons on the sidewalk where he was found. He is remembered by his sister as a charismatic and sympathetic person and a devoted father to his young son. The family is calling for justice and hopes for the swift apprehension of the person responsible for his death.
