In the pre-dawn hours of May 11, 2018, the life of 17-year-old Tyron George, a Black male from Hartford, Connecticut, was brought to a violent end. Shortly before 1 a.m., the city's ShotSpotter system detected the sound of ten gunshots near Huntington and Collins streets. Responding officers discovered the teenager lying in the driveway of a residence at 186 Collins Street. He had been shot multiple times, with at least one wound to the head.
Emergency services transported George to St.
Francis Hospital and Medical Center, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:15 a.m. The location of the shooting was behind a three-story brick apartment building. Investigators at the time indicated that they had recovered significant evidence from the scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Hartford police had not made any arrests in connection with the homicide. Publicly available information in the years that have followed has not indicated any arrests have been made or any suspects have been identified in the killing of Tyron George. The investigation into his death remains unresolved.
