In the early afternoon of a summer day in Hartford, Connecticut, the life of 34-year-old Hispanic male, Hurberto Robert O'Neil Jr., was tragically cut short. On June 14, 2014, just before 1 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire near 66 Main Street. Upon arrival, they discovered O'Neil on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his head and face.
He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
The investigation into O'Neil's death quickly pointed to a suspect, 21-year-old Michael Pryce. Investigators learned that Pryce was homeless at the time and was believed to have associations with the Bloods street gang. He also had a history of prior arrests in various Hartford neighborhoods. Within four days of the shooting, on June 18, 2014, an arrest warrant was issued for Pryce, charging him with murder.
Despite the warrant, Pryce managed to elude capture for several months. Authorities sought the public's help in locating him, but he remained at large. The search for O'Neil's alleged killer extended beyond Connecticut. In an unexpected turn of events, on November 1, 2014, police in Margate, Florida, responded to a domestic dispute. The woman who made the call wanted her son, Michael Pryce, removed from her house due to his refusal to follow her rules. Although the argument was only verbal, the officers on the scene discovered the outstanding murder warrant from Hartford and arrested Pryce.
