On an evening in early August of 2020, the life of Chan Neil Williams-Bey Sr., a 49-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in Hartford, Connecticut. A lifelong resident of the city, he was fatally shot on August 4, 2020. The incident occurred near the intersection of Norfolk and Kent Streets. Hartford police officers responded to the area after receiving a notification from the city's ShotSpotter system around 9:30 p.m.

Williams-Bey in the backyard of a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was quickly transported to St. Francis Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead a short time later. His death marked the 16th homicide in Hartford for that year.
