In the early hours of a Sunday morning in October 2017, the life of Allen Cox, a 25-year-old Black man from Hartford, Connecticut, was irrevocably altered. On October 15th, at approximately 12:38 a.m., Hartford police responded to a call at 35 Whitmore Street. There, they discovered Allen Cox unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene before rushing him to Hartford Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

days, Cox fought for his life, with his family holding onto hope. However, medical professionals soon determined that his injuries were not survivable. On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 2:45 p.m., with his family by his side, Allen Cox was pronounced deceased. His death marked another homicide in the city that year, leaving a family to grieve and a community to seek answers.
Following the shooting, the Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes Division launched an active and ongoing investigation into the homicide of Allen Cox.
