On February 5, 2021, at approximately 5:44 a.m., Hartford police responded to Retreat Avenue following reports of a person lying in the roadway, initially believed to have been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers discovered 28-year-old Cleveland Byfield of Hartford suffering from a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
