On February 27, 2026, a 911 call from a concerned family member initiated a sequence of events that would end in the death of Steven Jones, a 55-year-old Black man from Hartford, Connecticut. The family reported that Jones was experiencing an acute mental health crisis, had harmed himself, and was in possession of a knife. The first officer to arrive on Blue Hills Avenue found Jones on the front stoop of his apartment, holding a large knife.
