On the evening of September 1, 2019, in Hartford, Connecticut, 17-year-old Usher Hanns, a Black male, was caught in a burst of gunfire on Edgewood Street. The incident, which involved at least 12 gunshots detected by the city's ShotSpotter system, resulted in Hanns being struck in the head. First responders found him and rushed him to St. Francis Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries three days later on September 4, 2019.
