In the early morning hours of Christmas Eve in 2024, the life of 27-year-old Lakyron Herrod was tragically cut short. At approximately 6:20 a.m., officers from the North Little Rock Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Maple Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Herrod, a resident of North Little Rock, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite immediate medical attention, Lakyron Herrod was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident quickly turned into a homicide investigation as detectives began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The community was left shaken by the violence that had occurred on a day typically associated with peace and celebration.
In the course of their investigation, authorities identified a suspect in connection with Herrod's death. Robert Sanders III, also 27 years old, was taken into custody on the same day as the incident. Sanders has since been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by certain persons. He is currently being held without bond at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility as the legal proceedings continue. While an arrest has been made, the North Little Rock Police Department has encouraged anyone with additional information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact them through their tip line or by reaching out to the detective assigned to the case.
