In North Little Rock, Arkansas, a fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of Big D Liquor on the evening of March 9, 2022. Christopher Moritz, a 43-year-old male, was shot during what authorities have described as a robbery. The incident occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. in the area of 24th and Railroad. First responders arrived to find Moritz suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Christopher Moritz succumbed to his injuries. The North Little Rock Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, treating it as the city's first homicide of 2022. Detectives processed the scene for evidence and conducted interviews with potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to the tragic shooting.
Within a couple of days, the investigation led to a significant development. On March 11, 2022, detectives with the North Little Rock Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of Moritz. The suspect was identified as 45-year-old Charley Griffin, also of North Little Rock. Griffin was subsequently charged with capital murder, aggravated robbery, and felon in possession of a firearm. He was taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center where he was held without bond. The police continued to encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward as the investigation remained active.
