In the Rose City neighborhood of North Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 31, 2015, the life of 24-year-old Corey Derscheid, a White male, was tragically cut short. Derscheid, known in the local music scene as the rapper '1.0triPPyDC,' was discovered in his home on Walter Place with a single gunshot wound to the head. The incident, which occurred around 2:00 p.m., shocked a community described as typically quiet and not accustomed to such violent acts.
Authorities were quick to identify a
suspect in the shooting. Christopher Maines, a 45-year-old man, was apprehended by the Beebe Police Department shortly after the homicide. Following his arrest, Maines was transported to the North Little Rock Investigators Division for questioning. There, he reportedly confessed to the crime, providing a chilling account of his actions. He stated that he had loaded a handgun, entered Derscheid's residence, and shot him in the head. After the shooting, he fled the scene with his wife, Peggy Maines.
The aftermath of the tragic event brought to light a history of mental health struggles concerning the suspect. Peggy Maines revealed that her husband had been experiencing significant paranoia, believing that people were intent on harming him. She had reportedly urged him to seek psychiatric help before the fatal encounter with Derscheid. The families of both the victim and the suspect were left to grapple with the devastating consequences of the incident. Derscheid's mother, Danielle King, described her son as a passionate performer who had no known enemies, making the senseless act of violence even more difficult to comprehend.
Christopher Maines was subsequently charged with capital murder and held at the Pulaski County Jail. In the ensuing legal proceedings, he pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. As a result of his plea, Maines was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. A GoFundMe campaign was established to offer support to Corey Derscheid's grieving family during the profoundly difficult time following his untimely death.
