On July 11, 2019, at approximately 9:25 p.m., North Little Rock Police responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at The Ridge apartment complex, located at 930 W. Scenic Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Jarvis Cherron Kolen Jr. on the sidewalk in front of the complex, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, Kolen was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.
