Giovanni Castillo, a 21-year-old man from Fort Worth, Texas, was remembered by loved ones as a joyful and loving person with a big heart who was dedicated to his family and friends. A 2021 graduate of Lake Worth High School, he had become a carpenter and was working to expand his family's business. He was also a new father, having recently welcomed his son, Noel. His family said he was always looking out for everyone and strived to put a smile on their faces.

On the evening of November 12, 2024, his life was cut short in North Little Rock, Arkansas. At approximately 8:50 p.m., police officers responded to a shooting in the 4800 block of MacArthur Drive. They found Giovanni suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Detectives with the North Little Rock Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation. Just over a month later, on December 18, 2024, investigators arrested their first suspect, 23-year-old Briontaye Walls of North Little Rock. He was charged with one count of capital murder and one count of aggravated robbery and was held at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility.

The investigation continued, and police identified two additional suspects, charging 18-year-old Jarquez Butler of Little Rock and 21-year-old Devontaye Hayes with capital murder and aggravated robbery. On December 20, 2024, Jarquez Butler turned himself in to detectives at the North Little Rock Justice Center and was taken into custody without bond.

In February 2026, a Little Rock co-defendant was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting. Four months later, in June 2026, Briontaye Walls went to trial and a jury acquitted him of the capital murder charge.
