In the evening hours of February 27, 2016, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leaving tragedy in its wake. When officers arrived at the scene around 8:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about shots being fired, they discovered three men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was 19-year-old Jevon Shearer, a Black male.
All three victims were rushed to local hospitals for medical attention.
While the other two men were treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Jevon Shearer succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead. The incident, which began as a violent altercation, had claimed the life of a young man and left a community searching for answers.
The investigation into the triple shooting and Shearer's death continued as authorities searched for those responsible. Eventually, a suspect, Roy Lee Boles, was arrested in connection with the shooting. The legal process moved forward, and Boles faced trial for his alleged involvement in the events of that fatal night.
Despite the arrest and subsequent trial, the path to justice took an unexpected turn. After the presentation of evidence and testimony, a jury found Roy Lee Boles not guilty in the shooting death of Jevon Shearer. This acquittal left the case without a conviction and the family of the young victim still seeking a sense of closure and resolution for their loss.
