In the winter of 2017, the life of Monte Gilbert, a male resident of North Little Rock, Arkansas, was tragically cut short. On the night of Friday, January 20th, police were called to a residence on Division Street to investigate a double shooting. Inside, they discovered Monte Gilbert and another man, Glenn Jennings, in a bedroom, both having sustained gunshot wounds.
Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene, marking one of the city's first homicides of the year.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led authorities to a suspect. A witness came forward and identified Emanuel Traylor as the individual who had shot both Gilbert and Jennings. The motive for the fatal shooting was believed to be a drug deal that had taken a violent turn. Based on the witness testimony, law enforcement was able to piece together the events that led to the deaths.
A significant lead in the case came from the discovery of a white Mercury Mountaineer near the crime scene, just a block away on Frank Street. The keys were still in the ignition and the doors were unlocked. Initially, Traylor and two others had reported the vehicle as stolen. However, one of the witnesses later recanted this story, admitting it was a fabrication and implicating Traylor in the shootings. Following this information, Emanuel Traylor was taken into custody by the North Little Rock Police Department in connection with the deaths of Monte Gilbert and Glenn Jennings.
