On May 30, 2024, in rural Mission, Texas, 54-year-old Fernando Madrid was fatally shot during a dispute over the ownership of roosters. The incident occurred around 3:53 a.m. at a residence on the 5700 block of Doffing Road. Deputies from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a gunshot victim and, upon arrival, detained two men outside the residence. Family members informed the deputies that Madrid was inside a restroom, where he was found with a fatal gunshot wound.
